Outline: In the digital age, online rumours can spread swiftly within the company and around the world via internet. What’s more, response to the COVID-19 pandemic has meant that online communication is used much more than previously due to employees working remotely. This means communicators need to give high priority to closely monitor social media comments about the company. Anyone, including but not limited to employee, business partner and customer, seeking or sharing inflammatory false information online or in digital messaging can quickly cause a shock to a company’s reputation, profit and even share price. How could IR professionals prevent this situation and defend the company’s reputation effectively against false rumours or crises?

In this webinar, we invite professionals from IR agency, buyside, consultant, and listed company to share valuable insights into the IR strategies when handling false market rumours and crises.

This webinar will touch on the current trends and hot topics in relation to:

Joanne Wong is a Senior Managing Director in the Strategic Communications segment of FTI onsulting and is based in Hong Kong. With over 22 years of communications consultancy experience, Joanne is a reputation management leader with a holistic suite of strategic communications expertise. She is a senior regional business partner for clients and teams – focusing on values, impact and operational excellence. Joanne is a well-rounded strategist and counsellor in corporate reputation management, issue and crisis response, public affairs and government relations, market access, change management, employee engagement, CSR/CSV, investor relations, media relations, branding and marketing communications. She advises and works on clients from financial services, professional services, banking, manufacturing & supply chain, healthcare, energy & natural resources, technology and consumer sectors. Her clientele includes Pfizer, Amgen, Saudi Aramco, Covestro, Mattel, Johnson & Johnson, Nike, Fidelity, CFA Institute, ExxonMobil, Novartis, NASDAQ, Nikko Asset Management, Deutsche Bank, Financial Times, The Carlyle Group, EY and P&G. A certified media and crisis communications trainer, Joanne has conducted over 560 issue response and media engagement training sessions for C-suite executives across key markets in Asia – including Hong Kong, Singapore, Seoul, Shanghai, Beijing, Tokyo, Jakarta and Mumbai. In addition, she is also a sales and presentation skills trainer in multiple languages.

Specific to her automotive experiences, Joanne had supported Hyundai Motors with multiple international campaigns to build its reputation in technology innovation, as well as to strategize for Hyundai’s global sponsorship programs. She was also the public affairs consultant for General Motors in China, providing regulatory insights on key initiatives such as China Manufacturing 2025 and reform in the automotive segment. In addition, Joanne supported Covestro (formerly Bayer Materials Science) in building B2B channel strategies targeting the automotive segment in key markets including China, Germany, Korea, India and Japan. She also had counseled BYD on messaging as the firm expanded into electric cars arena. Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Joanne was with international communications consultancy FleishmanHillard for over 19 years where she began as a Senior Account Executive. And in 2013, she was appointed Executive Vice President and Senior Partner, tasked to lead the business development and client service functions of the firm’s Asia Pacific operations. Joanne was also a member of the executive management team, responsible for driving the FleishmanHillard’s growth in the region. Born in Hong Kong and educated in Canada, Joanne holds a bachelor’s degree with honors in international relations from Trinity College, University of Toronto. She was a journalist in Toronto and Hong Kong before joining Lee Wolter & Co. in Hong Kong in 1997 to begin her communications consultancy profession. Joanne is fluent in English, Cantonese and Mandarin, and also conversational Japanese and Korean.

Mr. William Tsang,

William holds dual responsibilities at Chartwell Capital as Head of Research and co-Portfolio Manager. As Head of Research, he manages Chartwell’s research process and oversees the development of the team. As a co-Portfolio Manager, he plays a crucial role in stock selection.

William has 18 years of combined experience as investment professional and software engineer. 13 years in asset management and hedge fund specializing in portfolio management and equity research. 5 years in software engineering, R&D, and manufacturing experience. Since joining Chartwell, William structured Chartwell’s proprietary valuation and research system - to leverage on human input and maximize efficiency in research analysis. His contribution towards research is his in-depth knowledge on the TMT and semiconductor sectors.

William, who is fluent in Cantonese, Mandarin and English, was born and raised in Hong Kong. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer and Systems Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in the United States.

Ms. Winnie Fan

Ms. Winnie Fan is the Head of Investor Relations at Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB; stock code: 511.HK). She has extensive investor relations and audit experience. Prior to joining TVB, she held senior investor relations positions in State-Owned Enterprises listed on Hong Kong Stock Exchange and a Chinese company listed on Nasdaq. Before pursuing her career in investor relations, she worked at the Audit and Learning and Development Departments of KPMG Hong Kong. She is a member of Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants. She presently also serves as an Executive Committee and Treasurer of the Hong Kong Investor Relations Association and the Chairman of its marketing and promotion committee. She holds a Master of Arts in Education and Human Development from George Washington University and a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration, Accounting from Portland State University.
